Define the requirements before approval
Start with the buyer standard
Share the recycled-material requirement, traceability question, restricted-substance expectation or customer documentation request in the buyer terminology. A general sustainability label is not treated as a substitute for the actual customer standard.
Verify evidence on the selected construction
Material availability, certification scope, transaction or traceability documents and chemical declarations can differ by yarn, fabric construction, finishing route and production source. The evidence required for approval should therefore be checked against the specific development rather than assumed from a broader material category.
Keep performance and sustainability requirements together
A recycled or documentation requirement still has to work with the garment construction, handfeel, colour, finishing and customer-specified performance criteria. Review these constraints together early so the sustainability requirement does not become a late-stage substitution problem.
